Carol Armstrong

December 7, 1939 - April 8, 2021

Ms. Carol Armstrong, age 81, of Homosassa, FL passed away in Lecanto, FL after a sudden illness. She was born December 7, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA to Robert and Helen (Moretti) Armstrong. Carol grew up in Upper Darby, PA along with her younger sister, Roberta, and a large extended family. She was captain of the tennis team and played basketball and field hockey at Upper Darby High school, where she graduated in 1957. She continued playing various sports in her adult years. In her only year of coaching, Carol’s softball team in the Media Petticoat League won the Championship. Carol was an amazing aunt to Debbie, Bryan and Sue and was more like a second mother to them. She was a huge encourager, confidant, friend and life coach. She shared her love of the outdoors, books, sports and interests in many areas. They shared a lot of love, laughter and time together that continued with the next generations. She spent her working years as both a computer programmer and a bookkeeper. Carol was a strong advocate for women’s rights which led her to form the Delco chapter of the NOW organization with a small group of women. For many years, she volunteered with that group and participated in the activities that championed those rights. She moved to Homosassa from Wallingford, PA in 2000. Carol was a Quaker by faith and enjoyed drawing, painting, playing golf and gardening. She was able to fulfill a bucket list item when she was a Phillies ball girl during a Spring training game in 2002. She is predeceased in death by both her parents and sister. She is survived by her partner of over 35 years, Margaret Copeland of Seattle, WA; two nieces, Suzanne McKenna (Chuck) of Aston, PA and Deborah Goebel (John) of West Chester, PA; a nephew, Bryan Cullen (Jennifer) of Wallingford, PA; many great (and great-great) nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Ken Goodwin of Aston, PA. She also leaves behind a special group of friends in the Media area as well as many friends in the Walden Woods Community in Homosassa, FL. We will be celebrating Carol’s life on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the home of Jack & Leah Goebel, 605 Coltsfoot Drive, West Chester, PA at 3:00pm. We invite you to come for dinner and share your memories of Carol and the family will do the same. Donations in Carol’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Vitas Inpatient Hospice Unit in Lecanto, FL. Arrangements are under the direction of the Homosassa Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes & Crematory.
